Bourbon Review: Woodford Reserve Very Fine Rare Bourbon

Woodford Reserve Distillery - Straight Bourbon Whiskey - 90.4 proof

Woodford's 2020 Very Fine Rare Bourbon marks the 15th release in the Master's Collection.

The bourbon includes liquid from barrels that are 17 years old and date to 2003, the year Chris Morris was named Master Distiller."

“This doesn't taste like Woodford to me, that's not good or bad, but it's nice to see from a special release“

We got our hands on a bottle of Woodford Reserve 2020 Master’s Collection: Very Fine Rare Bourbon. Brian Perry was gracious enough to come in and review this with us, and even though he’s still got some lasting effects from covid he enjoyed it just as much as we did. As we were doing the review, we misspoke about MSRP, but it probably didn’t affect our scores all that much. This is an excellent pour filled with mature oak, classic vanilla and caramel, and sweet apple notes. Overall, were super pleased with this years MC release! Per the usual, we look at five different categories in our own terms: Bottle, Appearance, Smell, Value, and Taste. Enjoy the review, drop us a comment and make sure you subscribe to our podcast, YouTube, like us on Facebook and Instagram.

Bottle: “I like the different shape, the cube structure its got going on there” - Brian

Appearance: “A good dark, rusty copper. Does copper rust?” – Ian

Smell: “I was going to say like a caramel apple almost“ – Steve

Value: $130 or so retail

Taste : "Theres some deep, dark wood in there" - Ian

Scores
