Whiskey Review: Kentucky Owl Rye (Batch 2)

Kentucky Owl, LLC - Straight Rye Whiskey - 101.8 proof

"Rumors persist that, rather than fueling a fire, those barrels were spirited away by Al Capone or another gangster operating in the area to inflame the late-night frolics of Chicago speakeasies."

"Kentucky Owl Straight Rye Whiskey is crafted with the same tradition and attention to detail as our original bourbon. It is among the finest expressions of Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey one can find." - Dixon Dedman

“You do have an advanced swirl though“

We’ve come across a few bottles that we’ve passed on, believe it or not. Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 2 is one of those bottles. Passed several times, actually, as the price was just out of the budget. But when we found a bottle in another state where haggling skills are welcomed, we finally got our hands on one. Is the juice worth the squeeze? Yep. Even with an unfortunate cork incident (see the Youtube link) we had a really good time with this rye. We still can’t quite put into words what were smelling or tasting, but its a dessert in a glass. Per the usual, we look at five different categories in our own terms: Bottle, Appearance, Smell, Value, and Taste. Smell: “It just smells like... I need to drink it“ – Steve

Value: Calling it $250 bucks or so retail...

Taste : “This is really good... It's got a sweetness up front I can't pinpoint. Chocolate? Then really evens out on the back end. I'd love to try this again later..." - Steve
