Whiskey Review: WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye

WhistlePig, LLC - Straight Rye Whiskey - 96.56 proof

Located in a 150-year-old renovated dairy barn, WhistlePig’s distillery is the culmination of five diligent years.

We are constantly pushing ourselves to try new things and to unlock the potential of Rye Whiskey. We protect what makes Rye Whiskey great, toss out the rest, and then innovate to make it better."

"Ass & Feet" were a pretty significant part of this live stream for no apparent reason.

We absolutely love doing whiskey reviews, and doing them live at Pub Frato makes it that much better! This month’s live stream featured WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye. We were admittedly all over the place on this one. We started out on a cube of ice, which is not our norm. We had to come back to it neat in order to get a good read on it. Even then we were thrown off, but we got through it and overall really enjoyed this 100% rye whiskey. Per the usual, we look at five different categories in our own terms: Bottle, Appearance, Smell, Value, and Taste. Enjoy the review, drop us a comment and make sure you subscribe to our podcast, YouTube, like us on Facebook and Instagram.

Bottle: “You know what's cool... is it's got the WP in the back when you look through it” - Steve

Appearance: “Its got a nice honey-gold color to it” – Steve

Smell: “It's got some sweetness to it. Maybe some honey and clove?“ – Ian

Value: $50 or so retail

Taste : "Big cinnamon spice to it" - Steve

"This has a pretty good finish to it... and it was diluted before with the ice" - Ian

Scores

Ian: 6.7

Steve: 7.9
